Location and Description:
The McKinley Bridge is located in Venice, IL. and is
situated south of the Merchants Bridge and north of the Eads Bridge. The bridge
connects IL. Rte. 3 in Illinois to Interstate 70 and Salisbury St. in St. Louis,
Missouri. This project consists of the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the
McKinley Bridge, the removal and reconstruction of the existing St. Louis
approach (3114’), partial removal and reconstruction of the existing Venice
approach (1119’), pavement milling and resurfacing, removal of an existing toll
collection facility, and the removal and replacement of the roadway and
navigational lighting.
Bridge Work:
The cantilever roadway structures on the main (through)
truss spans of the McKinley Bridge will be removed and reconstructed. A new
composite grid deck will be constructed and will be used for bicycle traffic and
access for maintenance vehicles. Structural steel repairs will be made
throughout the three main (through) truss spans of the McKinley Bridge.

This contract includes 265 working days. The Contractor began the
rehabilitation on April 4, 2005 and the estimated completion date is
November 10, 2007.
