IL 255 – Alton Bypass

Project Location and Description
Illinois 255 is a highway constructed on new alignment that is proposed to extend from Interstate 270 near Edwardsville to US 67 in Godfrey. The highway is being constructed in six sections from south to north and the first four sections are complete.

New Pavement Opening
It is anticipated that the next section from Fosterburg Road to Seminary Road will open sometime around Labor Day. A press release will be issued when the opening date can be determined.

 

Under Construction
North of Seminary Road, there is currently one contract underway to realign Wenzel Road and to construct a bridge to carry it over the proposed IL 255.

Upcoming Work
Next year a contract will begin to construct a bridge and associated work at the proposed interchange for IL 111/267 and IL 255 in Godfrey.

Included in the Multi-Year Program is the construction of bridges to carry IL 255 over Humbert Road and at the Union Pacific Railroad. It also includes the earthwork and paving of IL 255 to US 67. The Multi-Year Program projects are dependant on upcoming funding.
